Sussex Light Dragoons....Help
« on: Thursday 06 March 08 22:29 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Can anybody point me in the direction of The Sussex Light Dragoons?

I have a Mariah March who I think is "one of mine" bap. 1799, Beverley, Yorks to father William, mother Grace.  Checking on this entry in the parish reg I find William is "a soldier".

Following this up in the IGI I found a marriage of William March and Grace Burfett in Exeter.  Again on checking this against the parish reg entry I find "William March, Sussex Light Dragoons".

Maybe coincidence but as these are the only clues I have at the moment I feel it is worth following up hence my question about the Sussex Light Dragoons.  Perhaps some records of this regiment might survive which will put the two Williams together.

Any thoughts would be very appreciated.

Many thanks

Bob

Bob

If you type Sussex Light Dragoons into Google, you will get lots of hits - some of which may prove interesting to you.

Likewise, if you type Sussex Light Dragoons into the A2A website, (selecting all archives) you also get 2 hits that containt some 10 entries.

There are none in the Sussex entries though.

Thanks for your thoughts Chris.

Looking on Google a lot of the hits are relating to an American regiment of the same name.  As you say A2A has two hits but they don't look to have any references to the actual soldiers.

Thanks
