Very few marriage records at that time gave parents' names - unless they married by licence and needed permission.  I looked at Pallots and it just gives the names.  Robert is of Oadby and the marriage was at Wigston Magna according to that.

Thanks Mike for the very detailed and helpful information.

Markham is my Father's Mother's family, so I am particularly interested in them. I have constructed a basic tree of the family from 1800 - 1960's when Elsie Matilda Markham (his Mother) died in Leicester. There are of course many dates missing. I can e-mail this to you if you feel you would like to help. However if you can assist in Robert Markham's antecedents that would be great. I live in Harpenden and it is very difficult for me to get to Wigston and stay long enough to do some proper research

Best wishes

Simon

Hello Mike

Many, many thanks for your dedicated trawling, we shall be back to the apes before we know it (my wife's comment)

So we now have Richard and Frances with 2 boys Richard and Robert - wonder if there were any other children pre 1799 or post 1802? I came across Richard a long time ago, Ithink he was recorded as living in a nursing home in Leicester and his job was a gardener, he died in 1883. Interesting that he is now a relation.

The next step will be to locate the parent's marriage record for their dates of birth . Curiously there are no other Markhams recorded on the Census who were born in the 18th Century in Leicestershire, so maybe they came from another county

I will have to try an get to the Wigston Record Office one day

Cheers for now

Simon

Hello Mike

Again a thousand thanks for the information

With regard to the marriage of Richard Markram and Elizabeth Peberdy, I have found a record in Pallots and also a Parish and Probate Record. Could you look these up please, I'm just wondering if further info. may be added to their marriage (below)

Richard Markham. ~ Elizabeth Peberdy.
11th/16th. November. 1816.
By Banns.
St. Nicholas Parish Church.
Fleckney. Leicestershire.

I am assuming that she was Elizabeth Peberdy b 1799 d Leicester 1880 and he was Richard Markram/Markham, son of Richard Markham, b 1799 Oadby, recorded in 1881 Census as an inmate in Trinity Hospital, Leicester, d 1883. If so they were both about 17 on the day!

It may also be the same Peberdy family who produced Sophia Peberdy b 1786 (daughter of John Peberdy and Mary b 1764 and 1766) who married George Ludlam in 1809. Their daughter Matilda m Richard Markham b 1836, in 1860 (Richard above was the Uncle of this Richard)

Whilst writing

You mentioned in your list of burials - Richard Markham d 1847 aged 87. Is this the Richard Markham who married Frances,. If so he would have been born in 1760 (37 years old when his first child was born - seems quite old) As there is no mention of Frances it is difficult to check

There is a Richard Markram, b 1766, still living, on his own, in 1841, maybe this is Frances's husband?

Regards

Simon

Greeting’s again Simon.

Fiche No. DE 636. / 9.
St. Nicolas Parish Church Fleckney.

Read thus :~
Page, 4.
Entry. No. 12.

Richard MARKHAM. Of this Parish. Bachelor.
Elizabeth Peberdy. Of the same said Parish. Spinster.

Married in this Church by Banns by Me :~
Peter Sinire.?  Vicar of.....Arnesby
This Eleventh Day of November.  ( Confirmation of the right Date )

In the year of our Lord
One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixteen.

Both signed the register by their Marks X times two.

Wit’s :~
Robert Cliff.
Matthew Lea. ( Parish Clark. )

So just wonder if Arnesby is Elizabeth’s place of birth ?
by that the Vicar of that Parish performed the Marriage ……Umm

More digging me thinks …

Can you give further details on those ....." Probate Records."

Names, Dates. and Where ? .......in order to save further trawling .....
