Sir Frank Job Goulson. DSO, OBE
« on: Sunday 09 March 08 22:36 GMT (UK) »
I have found a rellie was awarded the DSO and OBE for action in WW2.

Eventually he went on to become a Brigadier and was acting commander of the Royal Nigerian Army during the early 1960's. He died in 1962 in a car accident en route to Enogu.

Strangely i can find references to his predecessor and his successor, photographs etc but nothing for my man anywhere.
Can anyone suggest a possible source of photographs?

I have tried google and several military sites, historical military sites etc but drawn a blank.

Any suggestions?

Glen

Are you close enough related to apply for his service papers ? or maybe find out what you can from the Lincolnshire Regiment .... more than likely he will have mentions in The Times if we can ask somebody to take a look !!  :) :)

Search in Google Books for "Brigadier Goulson" - it brings up a number of  references in connection with UN peace keeping in the Congo

In 1960 the Royal Lincolns amalgamated with the Northamptonshires to become 2nd bn (The Duchess of Gloucesters Own) East (then Royal) Anglian Regt...He would have retained links with his parent Regt, ergo try the Royal Anglian Regt Museum at Duxford!

Thanks for the replies, i should have added that i'm offline during the week so couldn't reply, apologies for that.

I'm a fourth cousin to this chap, i have the details for the births of his two children and their marriages etc but haven't been in touch with them (the son followed the army tradition and the daughter married an army Captain during the 1970's).

I did find references in some military book sites but will follow up the links posted above.

Thanks again

Dear Glen,

By some chance you may see this. I am one of 4 grandchildren of Frank Goulson. My father is Robert Goulson. My aunt is Penelope. I considered a career in the Royal Anglians but turned to the law instead. However, I served with several Territorial infantry regiments.

Would be good to get in touch.

Kind regards,
Ian Goulson

Dear Glen,
Like yourself I have traced myself back to Ben and Mary of Ropsley and can go no further. My father was Valentine Goulson of Lincoln. His father was Joseph and my great grandfather another Valentine. One of my geat uncles was a Francis Page and it is possible that he is connected to our Sir Frank. I have written a History of the Goulsons for myself and my boys and grandchildren and would gladly sent you a copy if we could get in touch. I live at Newport in Shropshire my father having moved here in the thirties.

                                                                                                  Best wishes
                                                                                                                      Gavin Goulson
