Carnarvon 1861 please
« on: Tuesday 11 January 05 22:58 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Please can anyone look for a ROBERT HOPE who was a BUTCHER in Carnarvon and his family in the 1861 census?

As for address, all i know is that he was at Mount Pleasant, Carnarvon in 1851 and 1871. In the 1851 he was 21 and 41 in the 1871 census.

He and his family were probably all born in Lanbeblig, Caernarvon.

Thanks,
Sam

Hi Sam. I think this is what you're looking for.

1861 census
Llanbeblig, Caernarvonshire

Robert Hope, head, married, 31, skinner, born Carnarvon, Caernarvonshire
Grace Hope, wife, married, 28, born Carnarvon, Caernarvonshire
Sarah Hope, daughter, 10, born Carnarvon, Caernarvonshire
Catherine Hope, daughter, 8, born Carnarvon, Caernarvonshire
Margaret Hope, daughter, 6, born Carnarvon, Caernarvonshire
Ellen Hope, daughter, 5, born Carnarvon, Caernarvonshire
Robert Hope, son, 3, born Carnarvon, Caernarvonshire
William Hope, son, 1, born Carnarvon, Caernarvonshire

I presumed a skinner was a type of butcher, but I checked the 1871 census to be sure. There the same man is listed as a butcher.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
Andy
