Hello all from a very very hot Adelaide.
I have a bit of a puzzle that I need help with. I have just received my husband's 3xgreat Grandfather's convict records from Tasmanian Archives and therein it states that he was 'Native' to Barnett, Herefordshire but was tried in Hertfordshire.
Joseph was a 21 year old 'bud and graft' gardener before he was sent off to Tasmania for life, the offence assisting in Highway Robbery by "picking pockets".
His 'character and disposition' was recorded as having made 'bas connections' - REALLY!!
Does anyone have this Joseph PEDDER in their family tree and where would I go to find the Court Records for his trial etc?
I shall enter him in the Look- Up section as well as I have no idea of his parentage.
Funnily enough, at his death in 1885, his eldest son had to act as executor of the ' Farmer's' estate - his eldest son being the Chief Suoperintendant of Police! Thankfully, either his father made sure that his children stayed on the straight and narrow or they decided to not repeat the father's sins themselves!
Cheers for now - icecubes and freezer calling me!
Thanks for any help you can offer.
