Charles Edward Dobson - COMPLETED
« on: Monday 17 March 08 10:47 GMT (UK) »
I need to find the above couple married J/F/M 1912 Cookham 2c 620.  Charlie was born J/F/M 1892 (in Maidenhead) and therefore only 20 if this is the correct marriage.  I have searched for Eugenia's birth thinking that she must have been at least 16 at the time of the marriage and found nothing.

Is there a shortening of the name Eugenia that might have been used.  Was it possible to use a different Christian name for a marriage.  This uncle was one of eleven children so I think it quite likely he could have married at such a young age, overcrowding etc.  Family gossip has it that he married, had a daughter (or possibly a wife) called Peggy, was a taxi driver in London and then lived in Bournemouth.

I know he had a big black car in about1948/52 as he would occasionally come to visit on a Sunday afternoon and take my father, mother and myself for a drive.  Quite a treat for me not being used to the luxury of motorised transport!

Any help finding anything would be much appreciated,
Regards,
Abiam

Hi Suz,

When you say "there is no image available" where are you looking?  Do you mean whoever copied it had to guess the name?  I ask because I've just checked FindMyPast again and I can see Eugenia U Emmett J/F/M 1912 and there is a Charles Dobson as well Maidenhead 2c 620.  Just re-read your post and see "on complete index" how and where is that, please?

Mind you I think the 1914 entry is more likely I had forgotten Peggy was a diminutive of Margaret.  It also gives a correct middle initial and possibly in those days Kingston would have been considered London by Maidenhead people.

Of course trying to follow either will be difficult as we're beyond the last census but I can try looking for parents earlier and of course her birth.

Thank you very much, Suz,
Regards,
Abiam

On ancestry when you look up freeBMD you can also look up image -and it states no image available

then looking on complete index on ancestry it allows you to look up image for Charles Dobson -but spouses maiden name (it doesn't give forenames) is too difficult to read the first part of the name

I then looked up Emmett marriage for same qtr/year and there were no Emmett marriages listed at that time -so her name was possibly not Emmett

anyway, as you say -the other marriage looks a better bet

Thanks Suz,
I shall see if I can follow what you've done - for my own education!

I have found the other family on the 1901 census and from there her birth.

Now just need an expert on black taxi cabs in 1948/52 in Kingston!  LOL

Thanks for your help,
Regards,
Abiam

Hello Abiam,

Just a thought, is there any chance the surname could be Jemmett?  When I  was a child my Nan had neighbours by the name of Jemmett but that was in Oxfordshire.

Anyway just a thought.

Kind regards,

ANYAS

Hello Anyas,

Thanks for that but I've since gone for the marriage that Suz found and it all fits - having found the bride she follows through nicely,

Thanks for the thought,

Abiam
