My records show that Alexander was b:1829 in Canonbie and d:1888 in Canonbie.

Son James b: 1853 Canonbie married Margaret Jackson b: 1856 Newcastleton, Rox.  Their children were: Alexander (b:1875 Canonbie), Elizabeth (b:1877 Bewcastle, Cumbria), Walter (b:1880 Bewcastle), Jemima (b:1881 Bewcastle), John (b:1884 Bewcastle), and Phoebe (b:1886 Bewcastle). It seems odd that Alexander died in 1888 in Canonbie....I'd think it more likely he died in Bewcastle?  Bewcastle records might be a useful study for you.

The only other child I have on record, born to Alexander and Jemima Tait is John Weir Little (b:1856 Canonbie, d:1894 Canonbie) married Mary Ann Dunn (b:1855 Kirkcudbright). One son Alexander (b:1882 Canonbie).

Hi Kizziemay
gravestone at Canonbie reads:
Erected in memory of James SCOTT & Catherine DIKES. Also Phebe SCOTT their daughter born 4th Octr 1796 died 26th September 1865. Also Alexander LITTLE blacksmith who died at Claygate 4th March 1888 aged 58 years. Son in law to the above Phebe Scott. Also Jemima TAIT wife of the above Alexander LITTLE who died at Newcastle on Tyne 10th May 1901 aged 74 years.

(Its on my website
http://longtown19.website.orange.co.uk
if you follow the link to gravestone inscriptions, Canonbie church.
its listed as a Scott. )

I don't know if Howard has a photo of it on his website of Canonbie church, but I should have a photo if you can't find it there.

its possible Jemima was buried at Newcastle, even though her name is on the gravestone at Canonbie: her death should be registered at Newcastle.

Hope this helps

Jeffrey, all i have for Margaret Jackson is that she was born 1856 Newcastleton, Rox.  As her first born was 1875 in Canonbie it may be that she married about 1875 which may help your searches.

Hi kizziemay,
I am a direct descendant of lewis and mary little, I found the longtown site great as well.

I see you asked where lewis's family were from, do you still need this info.
