CONNORS - CARLOW
« on: Monday 17 March 08 23:25 GMT (UK) »
My gt grandfather is Maurice Connors of Carlow ( don't have a date of birth sorry!).  He moved at some point to Dublin where he married Mary Daniels and had my nan in 1921.  Unfortunately i have very little more than this to base my research on other that the fact that he had a few brothers who were all very tall!  I know that when he moved to Dublin he became an O connor.  if any of these names sound familiar or if any body has any idea how i can progress in my research i would be very appreciative.

Regards
Rachel

hello rachel,
sometimes clues are there and i think this may be the case here.

u have ur nan's birth year, if u have the full dob or the birth cert ur up and running.

ur father's birth cert or dob is the next important step.

as u have the maiden name of ur g/grandmother it ought to be reasonably straightforward to check the records in dublin.
assume that maurice & mary married lets say between 1918 and 1921 and u will have less of a task searching.

get as much info as possible from older living relatives.

if u can't get to dublin let me know, i can look up irish bmd records here in london but i will need as much info as u can provide.  tony

Hi Rachel,

My great grandfather is Martin Connor from Carlow.  He had a brother called Maurice Connor born 1886.  I am not sure if it is the same Maurice.

Regards,

Nicola

Hi Rachel,

Unfortunately I can't send private messages through root chat.  If you want to send me another private message with your email address, I can send you an email to that.

My great grandfather Martin O'Connor is definitely your Maurice O'Connor's brother.  Martin was the oldest brother he was born in 1879, there was five brothers and five sisters.  I have photographs of the other brothers John, William and Thomas, and a photo of one sister Ellen.  I am still trying to get information on another sister Martha.

Nicola- New members usually need 3 messages to use PM (Personal Message) system- I suspect that you won't receive any more PMs until you make 1 more post.

If anyone has done a DNA test, preferably Y-DNA haplogroup, that would be very helpful. My Connor from Carlow left sometime in the late 1700's.
