why is my server blocking attatments

can some one one please tell me why I cant recieve files with E mails I keep getting messages saying blocked unsafe file

Audrey,

It may be worth giving your internet service provider a quick ring to ask them - but it's likely that the files that are attached to the emails are "executables" - in other words, files that run as programs, and could possibly have a virus.

You should only open an attachment in an email if you are expecting it from somebody that you know, and the text in the email seems to make sense too (some viruses can be sent out seemingly from people that you know).

the file is from some one on this site who has found my g grandfather its a 1841 census file

Audrey this happened to me just last week with no reason what so ever. If you open outlook express, click on tools at the top of page, then click options, then click on security. Down the page there is a box which says "do not allow attachments to be opened that could have a virus". This box needs to be unchecked. Then click on ok and everything should be just fine. Hope it works for you as it did for me.
