Hi

Nothing in Perthshire for an "elderly" Robert.  The only one in Perthshire was Robert Torbet b 1840 son of David & Margaret

Have since found our that his name is also spelt as Torbit or Terbitt, eventually progressing (when he came to Ireland in the 1850's) to Turbett, Talbott, and eventually ending as Talbot (my surname).

Does this ring a bell with anyone.  The familyalso lived in Edinburgh, a common name was Adam
