Hi Janice,

I don't much  about Irish records, others here will know a lot more than me.

I cant see their marriage on the free BM for England and Wales but that does not mean it did not happen. You will need to search the complete index's first.

The Army records are held at the National Archives, Kew, what used to be The Public Records Office . They do have some on line resources.

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

As to the children births, you will be able to find those born in England on the index's and send for them.  The Family Records Centre which is now also at Kew has some  oversea's bmd records, inc Army .

Hope this has helped at bit.

Patrish.

Hi Janice

I know that the date for this marriage does not tie in with the first born child but worth having a note of just in case......

On the BIVRI
Samuel Varney father William Varney
Brigid Manley father Michael Byrne
married Kildare, Ireland 26th July 1856

perhaps Sarah was Brigids daughter prior to her marriage?

You say the first son was William born in Dublin around the time this marriage took place.

Hi Janice

It looks as though Brigid on that marriage could have been married before (or was illegitimate) with fathers surname as Byrne and hers Manley.

Perhaps she was out in The Cape with her first husband and had Sarah...anyones guess at the moment I am afraid.

The family appear to be in Army Accomodation in Winchester in 1861, this might help in your search for him at Kew. I know there were barracks at Beggars Bush in Dublin around the time William was born there.
