Butt/Whitlock Family
« on: Thursday 13 January 05 16:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am tracing to trace ancestors of Sidney Butt born 26.7.1880 and Beatrice Whitlock born 30.8.18??.  The family names are very common in the Romsey/Stoneham/Tytherley areas.  The Butts were Butchers in Romsey.  Any information or help anyone can give would be gratefully appreciated.

Nikki

Hi Nikki,

I hesitate to add this in case you already have the information (you have an exact birth date after all), this is the family in 1881

Middlebridge St,Romsey Infra, Hampshire,    Source:   FHL Film 1341300     RG11/1225/41 p18

Arthur BUTT M 24 M bRomsey, Hampshire,
Head    Occ:   Master Butcher Employing One Boy
Fanny BUTT M 28 F b Romsey, Hampshire
Wife
Earnest BUTT 4  M b Romsey, Hampshire
Son
Horrace BUTT    2 M b Romsey, Hampshire
Son
Sidney BUTT 8 m M b Romsey, Hampshire
Son

The marriage certificate of the two would help a bit (I presume they married each other??) - you would get their father's names and may be Beatrice's age.

Hi Nell:

Thanks for the info. I started this back in the 1990s but haven't looked at the data for a long time so I'm trying to piece together loads of scrappy old notes!!

Thanks again for the time you have spent on this

David

Hi,

I recently discovered a one-name site dedicated to Whitlocks which, as I recall, mentioned a whole lot of Whitlocks from Romsey.  The Whitlocks I was after were from a small Wiltshire village and this site had a trail for them going back to 1625.  Try Googling the "Whitlock Family Association" and see if that helps with yours.

Good Luck!
