Huge Favor, Re: Records office
« on: Tuesday 25 March 08 10:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,
When I was here last I was researching William Nicholson from Basing Park,Since then I have found out a lot about his family, however, Still no joy with our line of Nicholson's.
So here comes the favor, last time I was on-line someone said that sometimes if you have problems getting to the the records office, that if any of you are going they will look up bits of information for others.
So I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to do that for me?
Heres hoping, slightly  :-[ Embarrassed for asking.SW.

You may get a favourable response to you request if you postpone it for a while.

Hampshire Record Office is closed at the moment, they are in the process of reorganisation and integrating the Local Studies with the Archives, they reopen on the 14th. April.

Good luck,

Thank you Jebber,
I hadn't realized they had closed.
As a new comer to searching record's is it only Hampshire that you can go to?
I am hoping to find some of my families ancestors came from London or even Cumberland.

There are record offices/archives for all counties and/or large cities.  So while Hampshire has its main record office in Winchester, there are two other offices: Portsmouth and Southampton.  Both of these deal mainly with the records for their city.

Most county offices have a website and can be found through a Google search.  Some of them have their catalogues online and searchable.  Or we may already have put up a link under resources on each county board here on RootsChat.

Have you tried searching Hampshire's catalogue, online here:

You may get some clues as to what they have in addition to the parish registers etc.

Hello JC

This was their post about Trying to obtain correct Birth Certificate.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,307353.0.html

You could send them a private message, bearing in mind they haven't been on RootChat since January 2009 :(.

Hope this helps.

Hi J C

I have left a message for you and would very much like for you to get in touch with me.

Re. our possible family connection.

William was I believe Samuel's brother in the 1881 census, he was staying at 16 Selbourne Rd, Havant with Samuel and his family. :)
