20 Ford Terrace, Chilton, Ferryhill
« on: Wednesday 26 March 08 13:38 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone able to assist please with an 1891 or 1901 (or any other Census year) search for the inhabitants of 20 Ford Terrace, Chilton, Ferryhill, Durham - believe the registration district is Sunderland, St Mary's.
I have tried Find My Past but the properties only go up to No 14 on the search result.
Family I am trying to trace are Robinson.  Father's name known to be Joseph, son John Thomas b c1883/4.
Any info would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Ferryhill is nowhere near Sunderland, and will not be in St. Mary's or any other Sunderland Registration District. :)

The Ford Terrace you have looked at on findmypast is in Sunderland, and Chilton is some distance away from that, and definitely not in the Sunderland registration district.

So, sadly, you are looking at the wrong place.

What document have you got this address from, and what date is it?

In 1891 Ferryhill was in the Stockton Registration District, Sub-District Sedgefield. In 1901 it was in Sedgefield Registration District, Sub-District Cornforth.

Ford Terrace, Chilton is still there go to http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP/viewer.htm and search on the Post Code DL170JG, which will centre the map on to Ford Terrace. Looking at the old maps it was not there in 1891, and probably not 1901, as it does not appear in the address search for the 1901 census. Where did you get the address from?
The numbers in Ford Terrace go from 1 to 42.

The address is on my late father-in-law's Birth Certificate in 1912.
His parents' Marriage Certificate in 1908 also showed them both living in West Chilton.
I had hoped that they may have been living with John's parents at the date of their marriage and that this would be the same address and would have given his parents' details.
Unfortunately with a name like Robinson I am not having much luck as I do not even know where John was born.  I have had much more success on his wife's line.
I will try searching the other districts.

Does the 1908 marriage certificate give Joseph's occupation?

I'm almost certain he was a Miner - both father and son were.  I will have a look at the certificate when I get home to confirm.
