address on marriage certificate
« on: Thursday 27 March 08 00:16 GMT (UK) »
This is really just curiosity.  I have a marriage cert. for my ancestors.
Two years before mariage [1851 census] they were living in the same street [not same house] in Sunderland.  Their marriage cert. in 1853 after Banns shows the same address for both of them 'No. 10 Church Street".  However their first born [1853] is shown on cert. as them back in the same house number as the 1851 census.  [am I making sense?]
Just wondering if the the 'No. 10 Church Street' maybe had something to do with the church. Did the churches maybe have special rooms?
just curious,

Hi,
I am slightly confused, and may have got it completely wrong, but could they have moved in with one set of parents after the marriage, and then say move back to be with brides parents for support after the baby was born.?
Not clear who they were living with in 1851 and 1853 - households that is. Does 1861 census help?
Kind regards,
Paulene.
Of course, house numbering could have changed.

Hi to you to,
thanks for replying.
In 1851 census the groom was with his parents in 8 Lombard Ave Sunderland, the bride visiting a cousin at No. 7 Lombard Ave. I suppose if I could find the bride's proper address it might help.  I have tried to trace her in the 1841 but no joy.
By the time of the 1861 census they had moved out of the area.
thanks again

Hi,
While I'm thinking. Who lived at number 10 in 1861?
Hopefully, some brighter brains will come in on this, too.
Sounds as if they met through the cousin. Still think they probably moved back with his parents for help with the baby.
kind regards,
Paulene.

Stupid? Don't think so.
Where did looking next door come from -  though looking at all the ones on the page might be a good idea.
Sorry no more thoughts yet. Got some restorers doing some amazing work on a photo I sent them and the emails haven't stopped all day. These restorers are so helpful, and talented.
Paulene.

Hi again,
When you're online next send the census details for 1851 - it will be on the page they're listed on.
Bye for now,
 Paulene.

Hi again,
As I said, this is purely curiosity and I don't want to put you to any trouble.  I did have a look 'up and down the houses' to see if I could find the parents of Elizabeth but no joy.
Is this the census detail you mean? Ref. H0107/2397.
Oh, I should have mentioned the marriage was held in St. Andrews Church, Deptford, Co. Durham, [I got the cert. from Sunderland Reg.] - would you know whether this is close to where they were living?
thanks again. :) :)

Hi,
Happy to help, if I can. :) Not easy when you're far away - and Australia is certainly far away!
The Ref was right, but I need the folio and page number - if you look on your search results for the family it should say:
eg. for my ancestor Timothy Adams, born 1821, at Tipton, residence Tipton, Staffs.
Class: H0107; Piece 2029, Folio 357, Page 70.
I tried to find it without, but even narrowing it down to Elizabeth, Sunderland, visitor, I couldn't find it - as I don't know the family's names.
However, I can answer your second question about the church they married. Deptford is only one mile from Sunderland. The church opened in 1844, starting to marry couples in 1845. So that narrows the area where they were living, working, etc down - which helps a lot ot locate the rest of the family.
Have you seen the following site:
www.genuki.org.uk     that's how I found sunderland, durham. then you can find places nearby, etc, etc.
the information on the church I googled - it was on the following site (in case you want to look):
www.durham.gov.uk
At least we've found something, please feel free to ask. :)
Kind regards,
Paulene.
