Marriage of Thomas Anderson and Ann Hume/Home
« on: Saturday 29 March 08 02:46 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find a record of marriage for Thomas Anderson, possibly born in 1786, to Ann Hume or Home or Humes or Homes. I know they had at least 2 children, Thomas and George. As far as I know, they lived in the Lockerbie area and Thomas was born in 1836. The family migrated to Ireland in approx 1841. It is believed that Ann was born around 1800. If anyone can find a record of marriage or even record of any children born to them, I would be eternally grateful. Maxene

Hello Maxene

I have looked for both marriages and baptisms on SP but haven't found anything yet  :(

The marriage might not have been carried out by a C of Scotland minister and, although quite legal in Scottish law,  would therefore not be recorded in the OPRs.

Do you have any indication of their religion?

Hi, Gadget. I am pretty certain that Thomas (at the very least) was Presbyterian. Years ago I found a reference to a Thomas Anderson marrying Ann Home (or Hume) on 3rd March, 1816 but have never been able to relocate the info. I am not certain of how many children they had, but Thomas Jnr was born in 1836, so that makes for a big gap bwetween marriage and child, unless there were a number of childreen prior to Thomas; the other alternative is, of course, that this is a different couple. Thanks for what you have done so far. Maxene

Wow!! How quick are you. I have to confess that I am relying on elderly relatives to give me info that could be totally incorrect. I have been told that the family lived in the Lockerbie area before relocating to Fermanagh, Ireland in about 1840 or 1841. None of the baptism names ring a bell - John, Gerge and Thomas appear often, but hey - who knows. I wonder if this is the couple I am chasing? Thanks you! Maxene

Thanks, Gadget - this info now definitely rules them out. I'm shattered. In 1841, Thomas jnr would have been six, not 20 and 1841 is also the year they migrated to Ireland...although they could have gone after the census. However, I have pretty much ruled them out based on the age of Thomas - George would have been about 6 too I'd imagine - either a bit younger or, more likely, a bit older. Oh, well ...back to the drawing board. Thank you so much for your efforts. Maxene

Maxene - where do you pick them up for sure - in Ireland?

I'd like to work back slowly from what you have found documented.
