28th Regiment at Waterloo
« on: Saturday 29 March 08 21:51 GMT (UK) »
Could I please ask for a lookup to see if Private David Harvison from the 28th Regiment was at Waterloo?

He was born in Mullaghbrack, Co Antrim and was 20 when he enlisted in 1808 and  served until 1825.

Thanks

One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

From what I've read, they had about 50% casualties so the rest probably weren't around to collect the medal.  :'(

I'll talk to these people http://www.glosters.org.uk/archive/ and see what info they have on him.

Thanks

Hi Scrimnet,

A follow up on this old thread...

I finally got other distractions out of the way and asked them on the weekend and got a phone call back today - unfortunately I missed his name.

Soldiers of Gloucestershire have a forum on their site somewhere...Try that as well  ;)

They don't have his enlistment papers which is what I really hoped for and confirmed he wasn't at Quatre Bas or Waterloo. He was very apologetic that this ancestor wasn't there so he enjoyed my comment about how much trouble this family has given me I expect he was tucked up in bed with "man flu"  ;D ;D

They're going to send me the locations of both battallions for the 1808-1825 period I'm interested in and I can go to Kew and look up Muster Rolls - all of which I will send stuff back to the Soldiers of Gloucestershire.

Meanwhile, the latest WW1 service records have come online and a William Harvison of the 12th Lancers is available so expect some more questions. ;)
