Tynemouth Workhouse & death certificate
« on: Sunday 30 March 08 20:40 BST (UK) »
I believe Margaret Dodds, B 1865 may have died in Tynemouth workhouse some time after September 1914.  I know she was buried in the churchyard at Moores Close Seghill, although I could find no record of this at Morpeth.  Family history has that she died of "a broken heart" after her husband John was killed in a farm accident in September 1914.  I am unable to trace her death certifcate and will greatly appreciate any help.

Kateb,

What is the relevance of "Morpeth" to your search for the record of the death of Margaret Dodds.

If she died in Tynemouth, then the death would have registered with the Tynemouth Registration District authorities, which covered the town of Tynemouth ( and also Seghill).

When you write that died "sometime after Sept 1914", do you have a time frame.. e.g. 1914-1930 ?

I visited the County records office at Morpeth (?) a few years ago.  I have a note in a family book that reads "Grandma died 28th November, burial 3rd December 1935" but I am pretty sure this doesn't refer to Margaret Dodds.  I have always been under the impression she died within a year or two of John Dodds (Septembe 1914) and I have the newspaper cutting referring to the accident.  Family story has it that she and some of the younger children were admitted to the workhouse and the older children found places in service.  Sorry I can't be of more help but thank you for your interest.

Kateb,

OK... I thought that maybe you were thinking of Morpeth as it was the "Registration District" that borders Tynemouth RD  to the north.

You were at the County Record Office for Northumberland, which was once situated in the town of Morpeth. This closed2-3 yrs ago and was relocated in Woodhorn, just east of Ashington.

Perhaps more later !
