Beveridge connections.

As we have seen, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep individuals in the correct thread as we scan the different generations. We have seen many connections appear in the Wilsons, Muirs and Burts, just to give a few examples, and now it is time to have a look at yet another Fife family that appears to be in the Family Tree of many researchers who communicate with me. That family is the Beveridges.

I could start with my Great-Grandmother, Agnes Beveridge, who married John Forsyth on the 10th October, 1873 at Old Monkland (Coatbridge), and then work backwards in time. However, I have aleady made mention of her as the grand-daughter of George Beveridge who was the husband of Janet Wilson, so there would be little to gain in repeating myself.

Let's go back to about the year 1700 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety when James Beveridge was born to his parents, James Beveridge and Catherine Paton. James and Catherine only had two children: James and his younger brother, John, who was born about five years later, in 1705, also at Coaltown of Fordell.

When James Beveridge Junior attained the age of about 25, he married Dorothy (or Doretta) Williamson on the 29th May, 1725 at Dalgety in Fife. All that I know about Dorothy, is that she was born on 2nd January, 1698 at the coastal town of Aberdour in Fife, and that her father was John Williamson. At this point, I have no idea who her mother was. Perhaps, some other researcher out there may care to do a search for that information, especially if they are trying to research their ancestors who are connected to this family.

James and Dorothy had the following children:

Euphan Beveridge born 29th January, 1727 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety. She went on to marry Thomas Muir on the 23rd June, 1754.
Elizabeth Beveridge born 8th September, 1728 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
Effie Beveridge born 18th September, 1730 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
Alison Beveridge born 21st January, 1732 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
Janet Beveridge born 18th September, 1733 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety. She went on to marry James Beveridge in the year 1759.
John Beveridge born 1st January, 1736 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
Alexander Beveridge born 11th August, 1737 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
Margaret Beveridge born 7th February, 1739 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
Walter Beveridge born 11th November, 1740 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.

Once again, I would ask that you check the above for any obvious errors and let us know if any amendments need to be made. As you can see, when a couple marry having the same surname, it can become rather confusing, and that leads to errors.

Hello All,

In my previous posting, I made mention of James Beveridge, who married Dorothy (Doretta) Williamson on the 29th of May, 1725. Now we will be taking a look at his younger brother, John Beveridge, a coalminer, who was born in the year 1705 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety in Fife. He married Grissel Symsone (Simpson) on the 20th August, 1731. As we already know from my previous posting, John's parents were James Beveridge and Catharine Paton. It's my understanding that Grissel was born in Dalgety about 1709.

John Beveridge born 4th December, 1732 at Dalgety in Fife.
James Beveridge born 15th June, 1736 a Dalget in Fife.
William Beveridge born 12th September, 1738 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
Helen Beveridge born 16th December, 1741 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
Alexander Beveridge born 23rd May, 1744 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
Euphan Beveridge born 13th February, 1747 at Dalgety in Fife. She died at the early age of 23 on the 23rd November, 1770 at Dalgety.
George Beveridge born 8th January, 1753 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
Janet Beveridge born 9th September, 1749 at Dalgety in Fife.
Elizabeth Beveridge born 18th October, 1750 at Dalgety in Fife.

Hello All,

In this posting I will be taking a look at James Beveridge, a son of the individuals that I wrote about in my previous posting, John Beveridge and Grissel Sympsone (Simpson). This means that we are now looking at a grandchild of James Beveridge who married Catharine Paton.

As we saw in the previous posting, James Beveridge was born on the 15th June, 1736 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety in Fife. When he was about 23, he married Janet Beveridge, (here we go again with those damned matching surnames!). Please note how gingerly I'm walking on this thin ice. When you print off my postings and eventually insert them into your Family Tree, believe me, you'll look back and think, good Old Tom for saving me a lot of confusion - or words to that affect, I would hope!

Janet Beveridge was a couple or so years older than her husband, having been born on the 18th September, 1733 at Dalgety.

Their children:

John Beveridge born 11th February at a place called Habbeshole in Dalgety. He went on to marry yet another Grizzel, Grizzel Beveridge, in October, 1784.
James Beveridge born 13th September, 1762 at Dalgety in Fife.
William Beveridge born 8th January, 1767 at Dalgety in Fife.
Dorothy Beveridge born 5th December, 1768 at Dalgety in Fife.
Elizabeth Beveridge born 3rd January, 1771 at Dalgety in Fife.

How many of you noticed the name, Dorothy Beveridge, on the above list? Is this yet another good example of the "naming patterns" that I keep "spouting" about? Bear in mind that Dorothy Williamson had married James Beveridge back on 29th May, 1725.

Again, please check for any obvious errors and get back to us so that we can make the necessary amendments.

In my previous posting I made mention of John Beveridge, who was born at a place called Habbeshole in Dalgety on 11th February, 1760, and that he went on to marry Grissel Beveridge. The date of their marriage was 22nd October, 1784. Johns parents were James Beveridge and Janet Beveridge, and his grandparents, John Beveridge and Grissel Sympsone (Simpson).

Hello All,

After a couple of days rest, I'm back in harness again with a continuation of the Beveridge Family History.

Alexander Beveridge was the son of David Beveridge, born about 1691 at Ceres in Fife and Margaret Small. He was born on the 12th March,1720/1721 at Dunfermline in Fife. Alexander married Christian Moreis (Morris?, who was born on 26th March, 1729. The marriage took place on the 28th October, 1750 at Dunfermline in Fife. Christian's parents were Robert Moreis and Margaret Crockett.

Janet Beveridge born 16th October, 1752 at Dunfermline in Fife.

William Beveridge was the son of John Beveridge and Grissel Simpson and born on the 25th July, 1760 at Dalgety in Fife. He married Elizabeth Livingstone,who was born on the 1st May, 1739 to Archibald Livingston and Christian Muir, who had married on the 25th June, 1725 at Dalgety. The marriage took place on the 25th July, 1760 at Dalgety in Fife.

Alexander Beveridge was born on the 23rd May, 1744 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety, to John Beveridge and Grissel Simpson. He married Margaret Livingston, who was born on the 27th April, 1742 at Dalgety in Fife. The marriage took place on the 11th September, 1767 at Dalgety in Fife.

John Beveridge born 27th April, 1770 at Coaltown of Fordell, Dalgety.
