Anwoth and Girthon churchyards

I have just taken some photos of gravestones in the above churchyards for a contact in USA and wondered if I could do the same for anyone else.

Hello Callywoods

You don't by any chance have access to the MIs for these churchyards, do you. I did wonder if there were any of my Marshalls or Williamsons buried thereabouts.

Regards

Hi Judy

Yes I do have the MIs for these parishes but no, I'm afraid there are no Marshalls or Williamsons pre 1855.  There are lots in Kirkcudbright but you probably know about those.

Mary

Thanks for your reply. I am probably going round in circles so forgive me if I had asked you that before. I am trying to find the death of a Margaret Williamson c1851-1855 in the Twynholm area but have not been able to.

Sorry - can't help with Mgt Williamson but will keep a look out.  I see from the 1851 census that she was a vagrant so it would be pretty unlikely that the family would manage to buy a tombstone.
Happy hunting! Mary

I keep forgetting that fact. Even in later burials they were a poor family. Is this where Parish Registers come into their own? She may well turn up one day, poor soul.

No Kerr tombstones in Anwoth (pre 1855 anyway) I'm afraid.
