Hi Jackie,

I'm not certain of the location of Pound Street although I've learnt that there's a ruined Dominican Chapel in the street which dates from the eighteenth century. The map in this link may assist in spotting the street ... http://www.johnthemap.co.uk/pages/sligo/sligo_centre.html

Ballina town I think.
Ballina used to be considered Sligo.
Rafter, Smith, Hession, O'Gara, Leech, Durkin, McManus, Eustace, O'Brien, Hyland, White, Hoey, Maher, Martin, McConaghy, Flynn, Davy.
Ballybough, Ballina, Ballyinaglea, Sligo , Casleconner, Killucan, Royal Canal. Ballymoney(wex).

There's definitely a Pound Street in Sligo www.sligoweekender.ie/news/story/?trs=qlkfgb  This article in the Sligo Weekender isn't about Ballina

I think Pound Street is now known as Connolly Street ... Pound Lane, which runs off it, still has its old name.

My husband was born in Connolly Street..it was most definitely called Pound Street at

There is a Dominican Friary in High Street, which is a continuation of Connolly Street..one street leads directly into another. The Friary was partly knocked down in the early 1970s and rebuilt, although there is still part of the old Friary still there at the back. This is just part of a wall of the old chapel but there is no roof.

The ruins of a Dominican abbey are in Abbey Street.

Looking for Rennick in Sligo and other parts of Ireland especially Fermanagh, Cavan, Louth. Anne McCauley of Fermanagh, her husband Thomas Rennick born Armagh.
Also Lapidus from Boston, Mass, USA.

Hi jackie,

Connolly Street in Sligo is the old Pound Street in Sligo.  There is an excellent book "The streets of Sligo" by Fiona Gallagher - an excellent read of general interest on the streets of sligo.
