HALLING or HALLUNG of Wiltshire
« on: Thursday 10 April 08 14:31 BST (UK) »
Has anyone come across the family of Anna or Hannah Halling or Hallung who was born c.1784 I believe in the Moredon or Swindon area. She married a William Allen in about 1812 in Rodbourne Cheney. I'd be interested in anyone of this name anywhere in or around Wiltshire really.  ??? ???

Have you got that the right way round  or did he take her name? 1851 census shows William and Anna Halling, both born 1784, as husband and wife, with a niece and nephew at Rodbourne Cheney.

Hi Derek,
I'd already tried that in searching through the parish records. The child that my wife descended from gave her father's name as William Allen on her wedding certificate, and I found his father (John), but as for the Hallings or Hallungs, I can find no trace even in the surrounding parishes. The surname never comes up. The only thing left now is to see if they were Baptists or one of the other religions.

Looking at IGI, the Hallings appear to be concentrated across the frontier in Gloucestershire. Try parishes there.

By the 1861 census, William was a widower, was blind and had reverted to Allen. He died 1st qr 1864 - reg Highworth.
