The Sparrows are still in Newcastle in 1881
James Sparrow, 16, born Cumberland. A whitesmith here.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q271-1WZW

Is that the last appearance of James Sparrow?

William and Elizabeth have more children, her maiden name shows as Wildon, Wilden on their birth regs.
Some of these children are in the Newcastle Union workhouse in 1891.

I'm researching the same ancestor as I'm a direct descendant.
Did you get any further on this?

Afraid not, Amanda.   Had to give up on this.

GRO birth
WILDER, Thomas  Caisley    mms.     DOUGLASS
1887  JunQ  Newcastle-upon-Tyne Vol 10B  Page 153

Possible combination -
FreeBDM   MarQ  1889   Morpeth  Vol  10B  page  472
CAISLEY James      MONRO / MUNRO  Margaret

Have you accounted for the CAISLEY and MONRO / MUNRO families?

Are they WILDER or DOUGLASS relatives?

It's a pity James didn't make it to the 1939 Register to see what he gave as his birth date.
Elizabeth Wilder still alive in Gateshead in 1939.
James Wilder died in 1937, looks like in about mid April, but I haven't found a burial in Gateshead for him (or his wife, died 1948)

There is a death notice for Elizabeth Wilder in 1948 which, though fuzzy, looks likely
Newcastle Evening Chronicle
17 Aug 1948  page 6 col 2

WILDER  Sherriff Hill 29 ** (can’t make that out) St., daughter’s residence, Aug 14 aged 82.
Elizabeth beloved wife of late James. Interment Sherriff Hill, Wednesday 3.15. Friends neighbours please meet church.

Interment at Sherriff Hill would likely be at St John's Church, usually listed as being in Gateshead Fell (if you use satellite view on Google maps and zoom in you can see it has a churchyard) or that's my best guess, I am sure if I am wrong someone will come up with a more knowledgable opnion.

If she was buried there, its likely that her husband was too. I can't see anything for this time frame on Family Search for Gateshead Fell, but Durham Record Office have the registers.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01pd2/

Whenever it re-opens the Record Office do a 'quick search' service where for a fee of £5 they will supply a copy register entry via email should you want one.

Boo
