Can anyone tell me where KILNASAGGART in Ireland is. I know it is n the North. My Grandmother, who was a Murphy, Came from this town. Any information on the place or Murphy families would be great.

Cheers

Only townland I could find that comes close to Kilnasaggart is a Kylenasaggart in County Kilkenny.
Is there a reason you thought it would be in the North?
See www.thecore.com/seanruad to search for townlands and parishes in Ireland (be sure to change default setting from exact match to search for part of a word).

Hello Catherine,

Kilnasaggart (Cill na Sagart "church of the priests") is in south Armagh.  The area is reknowned for its Standing Stone. There's a Kilnasaggart Road near Forkhill in the area covered by the Newry and Mourne District Council.

Maggie and Mary Murphy were active in the South Armagh Cumann na mBan at the time
of the Tan War but there's nothing on the site to indicate the townland in which they lived. Maggie Gallogly (later Murphy) came from Ballymoyer. www.burnsmoley.com/pages/area/mBan.php

Hi Catherine,

Thanks for your message.

It's all thanks to a combination of an education at a school in Ireland, the internet, living
in Ireland and knowing the area, RootsChat and a wide range of interests which include listening to the radio and reading books. Whenever I get stuck for an answer I do what the competitors do on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and contact a friend.

Hi,

I stumbled across this thread while looking for info on Kilnasaggart stone.

Kilnasaggart is mostly in Jonesborough in County Armagh, I'd say a part of it is also in County Louth. The Kilnasaggart Road runs through Regina Park in Jonesborough, and on to Moyry Castle. The road is sometimes known as the 'old road' locally.

Jonesborough is in the Parish of Dromintee/Drumintee and there are plenty of different Murphy families in this area. You'll find a lot of Murphy's on Dernaroy Road in Dromintee.

Welcome to Rootschat. There are lots of Murphys in that area- I knew some of them in the U.S.

Welcome to RootsChat plain man,

Catherine, the case for your ancestors coming from Kilnasaggart in the north of Ireland is getting stronger.
