Frances Dobson - death please; 1851-1861: COMPLETED, THANKS!
« on: Friday 11 April 08 22:24 BST (UK) »
Hi

Could anyone please pin down a death date for this lady?

She was born in (I think!) Harom/Harome in 1784 (hard to tell on the 1851 census)
She married JOHN DOBSON (date and venue unknown)
1851 census: living at 8 Auborough Street, Scarborough, North Yorks. (HO107/2368 folio 258 page 20)
By the 1861 census John is a widower, lodging at 4 Hope Street, Scarborough, North Yorks. (RG9/3616 folio 42 page 25) in the house of John Slinger.

LOTS of problems surrounding this family ...

Cheers in anticipation,

MT ;)

Hmmmmmm ...

Francis? That's a male I would have thought.

Also ...

A September death would still appear 'live' on the 1861 census, wouldn't it?

I might just have solved my own query!

Looking on the PARTIAL FREE images at Ancestry, I find ...

1856, Sept 1/4 - Frances Dobson, Scarborough, North Yorks. Vol 9d page 191

so I bet that's her.

It gets even better!

I have a 'mole' at the Scarborough Register Office who looks things up for me provided that I give sufficient info, and it turns out that this is almost certainly the one I want, as at the time of her death she is living at 8 Auborough Street and left behind a husband - John Dobson,  clothier!!!

And another brick slides gently into place!

Next I need a photo of the headstone to see if any children are named. I wonder where she's buried? I have a list of the Dosbons who have died in Scarborough, but it starts in 1860. I bet she's in St. Mary's ...
