I didn't look at that thread, China - it was when my eyes were really playing up. I'm still trying not to scroll. I assumed that all relevant stuff was on this thread  ::)

So if it was Sept 1847, then he wasn't baptised that year  or he wasn't baptised in C of Scotland or it was near Dundee (possibly the nearest 'big' place was Dundee)   :-\

Eliminated so far:

Alexander & Cecilia [Willia in the 1851] Paterson of Princes Street (this William married Barbara & is alive & well in 1881)

William & Janet Paterson of Wilkies Lane (this William was christened before mine was born)

Pretty much eliminated:

William & Janet Paterson of Perth Rd in 1851, and Hawkhill in 1861 (their William was 4 months old in 1851, and not there in 1861)

More tomorrow...life is intervening at the moment :)

Didn't see your last post, Gadget...Church of Scotland is Presbyterian, right? According to the Candian census he was Presbyterian, and a couple of his children christened in St Gabriel's Presbyterian church. He was actually buried from a Congregational church nearby, found his son's marriage there too...don't know why he switched. Irrelevant anyway...

Got an exam Thursday and it looks like I'll actually have to <gasp> study... :o

Cheers,

Only thing that i can now think of - just to make sure that we've not missed a bpt. record - is that William might be a second name. I'll check on that later.

Exams - long time since I've done one of those  ::)

Good Luck!

HI China,

the Drouin collection is indexed on ancestry now, do you have Daisy and Robert's baptism information?

Hi Karen...woohoo indeed ;D Saw your post on the Canada board and went straight to Ancestry to have a play! And I was just in there yesterday hoping for it...

Yes, I have Robert and Daisy already, and Marion too (my grandmother)...hoping to find William's marriage but it likely won't name any parents.

Intersting turn...laaaate last night I was googling William Paterson Montreal and came across a very old (2001) post on Rootsweb, asking about Eliza(beth) Paterson, wife of William Paterson of St-Jean-Baptiste ward, Montreal...1901 census information was requested. I sent the person an email, and it hasn't bounced back as undeliverable...yet...fingers crossed...

I had the same thought, Gadget...let's see if anything turns up in the Drouin collection first...

Cheers,

Aha, I just found the Speller...I thought it was a familiar name...Annie Elizabeth Paterson, dau of William Paterson, married Newman Edward William Speller, 1901.

The indexing isn't all that great, but it's better than no indexing...

Thanks toni, I'll post this in the Canada section.

Not too sure it's useful in this case, though, as the distance between Montreal and Cranbrook is about the same as the distance between Montreal and London... :) ...Canada's a biiiig country ;D

You never know, though! ;D ;D ;D
