Beehive beer shop Merton 1857

Hi My Grandfathers brother was born at the Beehive beer shop at merton in 1857, has anyone any info on this building at all please?

In 1857 as a result of the 1830 beerhouse act any householder who paid the poor rate was allowed for the sum of two guineas to sell beer from his house.
This was in an attempy to cut down on the drinking of gin by the working classes.
The result was that many beershops were simply someone's front room and didn't survive beyond the 1869 revision of the licensing laws.

In most cases the man of the house had a full time job as well.

Hi David thanks for the info, my Gt Grandfather was a silk printer at Merton so that makes a bit more sense.

There is still a pub called 'The Beehive' in Mitcham.  It is located on Commonside East, Mitcham, Surrey.  CR4 2QB
