1841 & 1851 Census Lookup Please - Lilley
« on: Saturday 15 January 05 23:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I am looking for William Davis living in Lilley in 1841 and 1851. He was born c1797 in Offley and he was a gardener. In 1841 he should be living with his daughter Emma, who was born c1829 in Redbourn.
I would appreciate any help you can give me,
Thank you for your kindness,
Lucia
 :)

Lucia

I found these DAVIS' at Lilley in 1841. No Sign of Emma.   The 1841 does not give relationships nor place of birth.  Adult ages tend to be rounded to nearest 5.

WOW. Thank you so much Rick. Perhaps Emma is not there because she is a domestic servant somewhere else.
Thanks again,
Lucia

Hi Lucia, even rounding the ages up or down to the nearest 5 I find it highly unlikely that the William age 30 that Rick has mentioned could be the father of a daughter born circa 1829.
This(from the IGI) is a more likely scenario and worth following up.
Emma Elizabeth Davis christianed 20 sept 1829 Lilley,Father William Davis, mother Mary.
She married James Waller 29 July 1848 Lilley.
There is a marriage for William Davis that also fits the criteria,
William Davis married Mary Geary 13 April 1822 St Pauls Walden.
This ties in with the birth of 1797 in Offley.
Finally Lilley,Offley and St Pauls Walden are all within a 5 kilometre radius of each other.
Hope this helps,regards,Pete 8)
