If you have Williams birth cert - what was Sarah's maiden name and what was James occupation

Is James shown as deceased on William's marriage cert

William Withers (son)b1840 Croydon
.

I cannot find a William Withers with that profile on any census up to 1881

I think you have given incorrect info re: William if this is the right 1881 entry

44 Myrtle St East Private  Croydon Surrey

William Withers 46 b Lambourne Berkshire marine store dealer
Emily 27 b Croydon Surrey
William C 10 b Kennington Surrey
Frederick 2 b Croydon

That makes William b around 1835 - not 1840 and in Berkshire not Surrey

Hello Carolew

The info I have is as follows:-

Marriage Cert for William Withers/Emily Barnett 8th October 1870, William is 30 and Emily is 22. James Withers is entered as Labourer.

The death cert (1930) for Emily gives William as Deceased,Rag&Bone man.

Sorry I misled you in saying that I had William`s birth cert but I do have Emilys`.

The entry you found for 1881 is correct.

I have no other info on James Withers or his wife Sarah?

Regards Derek

Hi Derek

William was telling porkies about his age when he married

Was Emily's father Charles and her mother Rachel? Charles - probably a general labourer?

I will wait for confirmation of her parents names and will then post 1861 census details for you in case it's the wrong one

Here they are in 1871 living at White House Nutfield Surrey

William Withers 30 agricultural labourer & army reserve b Lambourne Berks
Emily 23 b Croydon Surrey

Hi again

Where did you get his mothers name of Sarah from?

This IGI entry ties up with the 1881 census details and is an extracted record

WILLIAM WITHERS   Christening:  04 OCT 1835   Lambourn, Berkshire Father:  JAMES WITHERS    Mother:  MARY

JAMES WITHERS   Spouse:  MARY FISHER    Marriage:  17 APR 1828   Lambourn, Berkshire

Are any witnesses on the marriage cert called Withers?  I have found an 1841 entry for James & Mary plus son William and 5 other children

Hi Carolew

Emily`s father was Charles Barnett b1805 on HMS Appollo her mother was Rachel Harvey b1823 Thames Ditton.
Marriage1848

The witnesses for the marriage of William Withers//Emily Barnett are:-

The mark X of James Withers
Sarah withers

This may be where the name Sarah for Williams mother came from.

I have googled LAMBOURN Berkshire and it looks promising as opposed to Lambourne Berkshire which throws up 4 locations.
