Manchester/Salford Census Name Indexes

For those having trouble finding Manchester ancestors,

The Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society has produced census name indexes for several areas of Manchester (1851 and 1861).

These give, for each surname, a list of census page references where that surname appears.

They are quite moderately priced, though p&p depends on where you live.
