Please can anyone help me, I am looking for information on Selina Dippnall born Jun Qtr 1866 in Manchester.

I can find her on the 1881 census  RG11/3988/111/15

But I cannot find a marriage or death  ??? ???

I would also like an 1891 & 1901 census lookup for her

Thank you

Hi Simon,

Not exactly what you wanted .. but just to show you a spelling variation, here she is in 1871 ..

Cellia Deppnall .. RG10/4036, Folio 140, Page 26

Kind regards,

Have a look at this one ..

Marriage, Dec. qtr 1888
Lena Dippnall
James Southern
Manchester, Vol 8d, page 346

I wonder what Lena is calling herself in 1891 .. might be worth having a look for curiosity .. ? There doesn't appear to be a birth for anyone by the name of Lena ..  :-\

This could be the above couple in 1891 ..

Kelena Southern, RG12/3260, Folio 54, Page 48 .. but Kelena could possibly be Helena .. born 1868?

Just checked the 1901 .. it was Helena .. !  :-\

I had an aunt lena, and since doing the family tree, I've found out her real name was Selina.  Also a grandmother Selina who is sometimes listed on censuses as Celine.

Hello Simon

If you are interested (and don't already know) I can go back a little further with the Dippnall/Dipnall/Depnalls in Lancashire.

My GGgrandfather John Parker Dippnall (b.1845 Manchester) was Cellia/Selina's uncle.

I have the marriage certificate for Cellia/Selina's parents William Depnall and Elizabeth Ray/Wray (24 December 1838) which shows the groom's father as W H (?) [possibly William Henry are they were common boy's names in the later family] whose profession was recorded as "Sea captain".

Selina's father William was born in Birkenhead which ties in with his father's profession and I am wondering if you know anything more about him.

The presence of Depnall/Dippnall/Dipnall family in Lancashire (and Liverpool, in particular) is interesting as they get fewer the further back you go.  There is a "hotspot" of the family name in Hampshire - particularly the Portsmouth area which has an obvious sea-faring commonality with Liverpool/Birkenhead.  My suspicion is that one family member (or family branch) made the move north and all subsequent families spring from him/them.

I am having difficulty finding such a link not helped by my understanding that a lot of Lancashire records were lost/damaged in a fire...

Hi Chris

Welcome to RootsChat

I also have William Depnall and Elizabeth Ray's Marriage Certificate.  I am having difficulty in finding a connection between William Dippnall/Depnall and anyone.  I have even researched the Hampshire side looking for a connection with no luck.

Joseph Parker Dippnall is also my G.G Grandfather, so I think that makes us 3rd cousins  :) :)

It is great to hear from you

Simon

Correction

William born c 1818 is our G.G.G Grandfather, making us 4th cousins  :)
