I would be grateful for any info re Peter McAnulty, b C Down c1823. His father's name was John.

He married Catherine McSorley in Lanark, Scotland on Dec 22, 1850.

Peter was killed in the Blantyre Pit explosion 1877.

There will probably be more information in Scottish records than Irish records. Do you have Peter's marriage certificate, etc? Also Scottish census records?

Thank you for your interest. I have all relevant info from the time he came to Scotland but none at all of his previous life in Ireland.

His death certificate gave his father's name as John but mother's name as 'unknown'

I'm hopeful that someone in County Down can identify him.

kind regards,

dixons

Civil registration of births, deaths and Catholic marriages began 1864 (from 1845 for other marriages). For earlier dates you would be lucky to find church records with details of Peter and his family.
Can often be submitted records which contain errors but have yu tried searching on LDS site?

Yes, I've exhausted all other sources but, like today, appear to be hitting the same brick wall.

Thank you again for your interest/advice

HI,

I have a McAnulty great-grandmother born in 1862 in Down, so I've been collecting info on that name in the county.

I don't have anything that is an exact match to the details you give.   If you haven't found anything either then perhaps the records for him are missing (or simply not available on-line yet).

The partial matches I have are listed below, as well as info that may be relevant to the father, John.  Hope it's of some help.

hello Dixons,  I find it very difficult  to know how to reply to people who suggest they know all and have exhausted all sources. I am holding my opinion until I see how many brickwalls you have attempted
Do you know the details on the 1850 McSorley marriage, inc the religous denomination, etc have you seen the 70 references to McAnulty on Ros Davies County Down website. Do you have all the Blantyre Pit records, including the Andrew McAnulty Paterson book entitled " A Blast from the Past" 2005.
Happy to try to help further if I become assured you really have exhausted all Lanark records, the children names could be helpfull etc
Anyway Good luck, Jim

Hi to Bhoy and Jim,

Many thanks to both for caring/replying. Much appreciated.

The list from C Down will be followed up as best I can for further clues in the near future. Thank you again B.

I have a copy of Peter and Catherine's wedding certificate and full details of their 12 children; Peter, Catherine, Mary, Jeannie, Agnes, Andrew, Joe, Lizzie, Nellie, Charlie, Wull and Pearl.

Brick wall(s) referred to are all re Peter's details in Ireland before he came to Scotland.

I have read Andrew McAnulty Paterson's great book about his family in particular and the hard lives of miners in general. A great true story, well worth reading by anyone interested in miners and/or Blantyre people.

Thanks for the good wishes. Upward and onward.

regards,

dixons
