william and mary cornwell
« on: Tuesday 22 April 08 14:51 BST (UK) »
i am going round in circles with these cornwells from bottisham as i can not find my relative isaacs birth details therefore am unable to match him to any particular family. i have narrowed it down a bit i think!!
william married mary benstead in 1812
i have 3 children robert charlotte and elizabeth who i think may all have died in infancy-is there any way of checking this out.
i am taking a very wild guess that they may have had more children ?????my isaac and wondering whether mary died either then or later
is anyone able to verify this or look it up anywhere

i then have a william widower marrying sarah adcock in 1832 had 2 children with sarah. sarah died and william then married ruth goodwin in1846
could this be the same william throughout.

Have you contacted the Cambridgeshire FHS, just had a quick look and I think they have CDs of the parish registers for Bottisham (1561-1950), you could check those??  :-\ the IGI doesn't seem to be very helpful  :-\

The William you found in 1841 married to Sarah, and in 1851 married to Ruth, seems to be the same one though.....

Theres a search facility, looks like they've got some baptisms online, otherwise I presume you can buy the appropriate cds. Try googling "Cambridgeshire FHS" it looks quite a good site.

Good Luck

Cambs FHS has an excellent site at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html
which includes baptism and burial indexes for all Cambs parishes 1801-37. Just put in Corn and Bottisham to pick up all the spelling variations

The burial index shows Robert, Charlotte, and Elizabeth all buried as infants at Bottisham Load

You asked if William & Mary had more children after their first three all died as young infants. The non conformist records show a birth recorded in the Bottisham Lode baptist church book on 3 Aug 1817 of Susan daughter of William & Mary Cornell of Bottisham Lode. Is there any sign that your Isaac was baptist? It might be significant that in 1841 and 1851 Isaac was living in the then hamlet of Bottisham Lode, 2 miles from Bottisham. William & Mary were from Bottisham Lode, and their first three children were all of Bottisham Lode on burial.

Like Bottisham parish register, my non-conformist register transcript is only available on fiche. It's amazing what you can do with a 30x magnifying glass! Or perhaps your local library has a fiche reader.

The Bottisham fiche will give more information than the index, but if Isaac's christening isn't on the Baptism Index 1801-37 then it won't be in the parish register from which the index was transcribed. I've just found that the baptist births are on the baptism index under the parish "Lode baptists". But still no Isaac.

Another possibility is that he might have been illegitimate and invented a father's name for his marriage, and of course his father was dead!
