What info can I get from a 1827 Manchester Marriage record?
« on: Sunday 16 January 05 23:45 GMT (UK) »
I don't know why they were married there. The bride was born in NYorkshire. Se was married in Manchester and then lived in Durham till 1842. (the family moved to Canada after that)

I would like to know if the record will give me the bridesgroom's birth location or county and maybe his father's name.

Marriage in Manchester Cathedral.

Hello Dave,
Regarding the information recorded in the Manchester Cathedral Parish records Pre  Sept. 1837.
For a Marriage... Name of Bride and Groom. Occupation of groom. Status - Bachelor/Spinster. Date married. Witnesses of the marriage (in many cases, the Verger witnessed) if you are really lucky, a family member might have witnessed the marriage.
As regards the Fathers name, address and occupation, this is not listed and only became compulsory when certification was introduced in Sept. 1837.
As a note of interest... back in the early 1800's, Manchester Cathedral conducted "block marriages" where over 200 hundred couples could be married in one day! They rarely conducted a "single ceremony" due to the costs.
Hope this helps.
