Gambling in Whiteparish
« on: Saturday 26 April 08 17:55 BST (UK) »
Looking for the wedding of George Gambling bap 30 oct 1791 Whiteparish to a "Mary". On 1851 census she is born Whiteparish but the only one I can find was across the frontier in Sherfield English.

Date presumably post 1810 and pre 1826 (but in my family, by no means certain!)

Thanks both for taking the trouble to follow up the records.

Dave - I believe the first baptism is the George in question but I don't recognise the other or the two weddings. The marriage of John in 1759 is a bit early to be the father of George born 1791. No trace of a wedding of a John and Caroline? I believe they had at least three other children - Elizabeth, Aaron and Henry

Lesanne - 1841 are the right Georges. It's a bit confusing since there were two Georges born in Whiteparish 1824/7 and the other married Jane Belstone and died in 1854. Caroline is George senior's mother's name.

1851 - John is married to Lucy Kemish but working at St George's Hospital in London as a "Bathman". George junior has left home but I have tracked him in spite of variations in spelling since he is my direct ancestor.

The marriage of George  to Mary Long at Sherfield English is the one I assumed for George senior. Will look up Moses to check significance - I seem to remember a lot of Longs in Sherfield English on IGI.

Thanks again - Derek

Thanks Dave - those are the three other children of John and Caroline........but where were they married?

Do you think it was it in Romsey 1782?  IGI Caroline Beardsley 25 April to John Gamblen?? Bit of a gap but no earlier children on IGI at Romsey - from 1782 to 1789, I would have expected a John and a Caroline.
