Hi, I have done a lot on my own family but I have just started going back through my wife's.

Her great grandfather is a Moses PRICE and her great grandmother is Rose, surname unknown.  Her grandfather, ie the son of the above couple, is David John PRICE.  He died in about 1960 aged 63, which would give a date of birth of about 1897, which would be consistent with the marriage record you were dealing with:
Marriages Dec 1894
Hatton     Rose Elin    Merthyr T.  11a 994
Price     Moses           Merthyr T.  11a 994

My question, therefore, is do you know whether "your" Moses and Rose had a son called David John PRICE?
I should add that the geographical areas match exactly.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mike

Hi Mike

The answer to your question is yes and here he is on the 1901 census returns.

12 Station Terrace, Brithdir
Mosses Price, HD, 31, Coal Hewer, b. Brithdir, Glam
Rose Ellen Price, WI, 24, b. Tredegar, Mon
David John Price, SO, 06, b. Brithdir, Glam
Elizabeth Alice Price, DA, 03, b. Brithdir, Glam
Baden Powell Price,   SO, 10 mths, b. Brithdir, Glam

I should explain why I am researching Mosses Price.  I am researching my local village of Brithdir with the aim of writing its history.  The project will be a local history written work with photographs/illustrations of the village and its people.  To that end I am gathering and researching anything and everything to do with the village from the 18th century, through to modern times.

It all kicked off about three years ago when a local newspaper, the Merthyr & Rhymney Valley Express, printed a letter of mine requesting the loan of old photographs and I was very pleased with the initial response as numerous people lent me photographs, postcards, newspaper cuttings and various other things, all relating to Brithdir.  With today’s technology all items on loan were immediately returned and people do appreciate that.

For those willing to help and live local I collect items on loan personally, make a copy and return the original again in person the following week.  Others who live further away have sent items through the post, again copied and returned immediately.  Also with today’s technology people have scanned items and attached a copy to an e-mail.  Could I be so bold to ask if you have any family photographs of Mosses Price and David Price that I can have copied?

I have great interest in both world wars and at this present time I am working on those named on the local cenotaph.  If you are able to help I would be pleased to hear from you.

Best Regards
Roy

That is great and thank you very much for your help.  I will be "off the air" for a while but I didn't want to appear to be ungrateful.  I will get back in touch in due course.  It is very exciting to discover people "mining the same seam", and so to be able to crosscheck information.

Thanks again,

Mike
