« on: Sunday 27 April 08 11:20 BST (UK) »
HI All
I am looking for any information on a John Landrum Born abt 1820/1825 Mayo, Ireland.
He appears on the 1871 Census in England Southport, Lancashire, living with his wife Elizabeth, son William Landrum Born abt 1855 Ireland, Daughter Mary Landrum Born abt 1863, Lancashire,England,
Going by the children's Birth Dates they must have Arrived in England between 1855 & 1863.
Any information would be very welcome.
Regards
Pughy

If you know their religion and where they lived in Ireland you can try to look for church records (if they exist).
Civil registration of births, deaths and Catholic marriages began 1864 (from 1845 for other marriages).
No records were kept of travel between Ireland and England, Wales, Scotland as all were part of U.K.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Pughy,

If the family appear on Griffith's Valuations then the Annual Revision Books
should give a guide to the date when the family left Ireland.

Landrum - Griffiths Valuation - Mayo 1856-57
William, Aghadooey Glebe, Burrishoole
William, Carrowkeel, Burrishoole
George, Islands, Inishbiggle, Kilcommon
John, Bleachyard, Burrishoole
Margaret, Doogort, Achill Missionary Settlement, Achill
Alexander, Doogort, West Achill
Alexander, Keel, East Achill
Alex., Sr., Doogort, Achill

HI Christopher
Please excuse my ignorance but could you explain the Griffith's Valuations and the Annual Revision Books in more detail.
Are the list of names William Landrum, Aghadooey Glebe, Burrishoole, etc, names from the  Griffith's Valuations.
Are the places, parishes in Mayo?
Were and how could I get information from the Annual Revision Books.
Sorry if I Sound a bit dim but this is all new to me.

Hi Pughy,

See the Census Substitutes on the Irish Resources board ... The list in my post shows the person, townland and parish. The Valuations were revised on an annual basis until the twentieth century which means they contain a rough guide to deaths and emigrations. www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,37465.0.html

Hello Pughy

I have the same problem with my Conways who came from Mayo to Southport.
Have you obtained the birth certificate of the child born in Southport?  This will give the mother's maiden name so might make it easier when searching in Ireland for a marriage.

If they were in Southport I imagine they were living in Little Ireland and would therefore attend St. Maries Church.  I have all the births, marriages and deaths plus some monumental inscriptions for St. Maries so could look for more information for you.

I had a quick look at the births and found the following:

29.12.1868 Mary Howard, born to Ann Howard , witnesses John Mitchell and Elizabeth Landrum  (John is in my family tree!)

26.9.1869  Margaret Landrum born to John Landrum and Elizabeth Landrum (nee Daley)  Witnesses Edward and Mary Conway  (Witnesses on my tree!)

I couldn't see any births before then.

I'll have a look at the other records and let you know if I find any more information.

Hello again,

I have looked through the other records and found the following:

Death  18 Aug 1870  Margaret Landrum aged 10 months, Marshside
Death  26 Jun 1867   Mary Landrum aged 1
Death  20 Dec 1866   Mary Landran(?)   This was transcribed with the question mark.
Could she be John's mother?

Marrriage  25th Feb 1868  John Landrum and Elizabeth Daley.  John's father is listed as Richard and Elizabeth's father is Michael.

As your Landrums seem to have been very close to my Conways, it might be possible that they came over from the same place.  Mine came from Westport, Mayo.

HI Sandgrounder
Thank's for your interest the research of the Landrums is for a friend consequently I have passed all the information I had over to him.
But I brought up the 1871 Census trying to remind myself of the detail, & living next door to them in Little Ireland North Meols Southport are a Conway family as follows

James Conway age 42 Head Born Ireland
Ann Conway  age 40 Wife Born Ireland
John Conway age 18 Born Lancashire
                     Mary Conway age 16
                      Ann Conway age 15
                 Bridgett Conway age 12
             Margaret Conway age 7

Is this family anything to do with your Conways.
If so do you  allready have a copy of the Census, if not let me know if you would like a copy.

Going back to the Landrums I have not got a copy of Mary Landrums Birth Certificate with them being R.C. they do not appear on the BMD indexes.

Pughy
