Have just found this message. I am a gt gt grandaughter of James Pool and Mary Glasson. James had a tin plate business in Crowan he also had a wholesale tea and spirits business . In 1846/1847 he kept the inn at Praze that belonged to his sister- in- law Eleanor, widow of Francis. I have extensive information on my Pool family compiled by the two family historians sadly now deceased and there is no connection with the Pooley family.
Two years ago the St Aubyn' s Arms was in a sad way, but I was there last week at it has a new lease of life and is really looking good.A few yards from the Arms is an area with a board saying Glasson Yard, it is now two cottages but at one time it was one dwelling house the other was a pub called the Smugglers Inn.
The following may also be of interest; I quote;
ST AUBYN ARMS Praze an Beeble Crowan According to Mr Douch (RIC ) a property sale was advertised " at the house of William Glasson,victualler," Prazeanbeeble. When the house was to let in 1845 the landlady was Mrs Pool and in 1851 the landlady and proprieter was Mrs Pool. This Mrs Pool was probably ELEANOR I suspect that MARY GLASSON, the mother died about 1825 ( I notice a will of this date wherein she is designated widow- I have not seen it)
In ELEANOR's will of 1868 she leaves a public house at Praze to ,I think, her three daughters MARY TREWEEKE, ELIZABETH ABRAHAM,and HANNAH MATTHEWS, then occupied by JAMES POOLEYand THOMAS SYMONS. Mr Douch further suggests that the POOL interest was retained but with different landlords, until after 1894 when the premises were advertised to let in that year, applicants had to be submitted to ARTHUR POOL at Parade St , Penzance. unquote
I have a picture of the St Aubyn in Victorian ( I think) times
