Durham wills - online?

Can anyone advise please? This may have been covered before (sorry) but are there any resources to search online (by name preferably) for wills in Durham - perhaps the Chester Le Street area.

I've looked via a google search but not found an index searchable by name online. Is there such a thing to enable a search of the entire county or do I need to know the parish?

Do you mean before or after 1858?
The Durham Probate Catalogue listing wills in Northumberland
and Co Durham 1540-1858  will be completed and available online in 2009.

Date of death I'm afraid is unknown which is why I was hoping there may be a way of searching a broad area and timescale.

You can get copies of wills that they hold.I got one dated 1787, from them in 2000.

Researchers requesting searches of the probate indexes, or wishing to purchase copies of certain probate records should contact the search room staff at the Palace Green Library.
