Dear Listers
I have recently discovered that at least one member of a family I am researching moved from Wanstrow in Somerset to Warminster in Wiltshire. She is Esther (or Hester) HUMPHRIES who married Benjamin GILES in about 1820, probably in Warminster.
If she was in Warminster when she married, it is likely that her brothers and sisters may also have moved. This would explain why I have been unable to find their marriages in Wanstrow or nearby parishes, despite looking for many years.
The relevant thread is at:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,301708.0.htmlI have three questions:
1. Is there any record of the marriage between Benjamin GILES and Esther HUMPHRIES in or about 1820?
2. Is there any sign of the marriage of his son, Benjamin Candy GILES, perhaps to Ann MORGAN, around 1843?
3. Is there any sign of other members of the HUMPHRIES family marrying in Warminster probably in the early years of the nineteenth Century?
Names to look out for are:
Betty (bap 1785)
Mary (bap 1787)
Ann (bap 1789)
Hannah (bap 1791)
Sarah (bap 1793)
Esther (bap 1795 - married Benjamin GILES)
Rebecca (bap 1796)
Benjamin junior (bap 1799 - married Christian GOLLEDGE)
Many thanks indeed for any help with this inquiry. With luck, I could be on the verge of solving a mystery (namely what happened to Benjamin HUMPHRIES and his wife Betsy (nee CANDY) which has perplexed me for thirty years.
Kind regards
Philip Candy
