There is a border crossing at Detroit Michigan for Reginald Clark, born 1900.  He's single and an automechanic.  His destination is Detroit where he intends to reside and become a US citizen.  Nearest relative is Delma Hodges, mother, Oak Bank, Manitoba.  The date of crossing is November 27, 1924.

Oh goodness me!  Now I start searching the USA!  This is certainly keeping me out of mischief.  Many thanks.

There is a Reginald Clark living in the US in the 1930 Census, says born London and is a lodger.  Says was naturlized in PA (Pennsylvania) in 1925.  The birth year is 1910 though?  His occupation is an Erector for baking equipment.  His is listed as single.

Living in Saginaw City, Michigan which is about 2 hours north of Detroit.

Hmm, no I don't off hand.  They have Michigan deaths on ancestry, but they start at 1971.

Re: What's happened to Winifred? AN UPDATE AT LONG LAST.
« Reply #43 on: Thursday 19 March 09 14:00 GMT (UK) »
For those of you who were good enough to help out looking for Winifred almost 12 months ago, I have at last got an update!!    :)

Briefly:  We knew Winifred had travelled to Canada with her mother c1905 - her brother was left in England and went over as a Home Child - but why?    ???

On the 1911 Canadian Census, Winifred wasn't with her mother and new stepfather so where was she, had she died?  She was eventuallly found at a dreadful place called The Home for the Friendless in Winnipeg.   That closed in 1926 - what happened to her?     ???

Just a couple of weeks ago I at last had some correspondence from the National Children's Home which detailed what had happened.  There were very heart rending letters written by Winifred's mother Delma as to how Delma and the 2 children had been deserted by the husband.  Delma was struggling to care for 2 children and decided to emigrate to Canada in order to earn a better standard of living.  She could only afford to take one child.  Winifred aged 8 went with her - I think there may have been some health issues - Reginald aged 5 was put into an orphanage until she could afford to send for him.  He went out some 2 years later.    :'( :'(

Reginald served in the CEF, emigrated to the USA but I think returned to Canada at some stage.

Some kind person on this site just this week has sent me the death notices for both Delma and husband and also for Winifred.  Winifred lived in a place called Portage la Prairie and died there in 1969 aged 71.

So, almost the end of the story.......if only I could fill in those missing years from 1926-1969!!!    ::)

There are so many friendly helpers on here and I am very grateful for all the advice I have received.  Thank you one and all!!    ;D ;D
