Hi

You will need to search the full GRO index  which is available at your nearest main library if you live in the UK.  It can also be searched online if you have an Ancestry subscription or at www.findmypast.com which is a paysite

You need to narrow down your search by trying to establish when the last "sighting" occurred

Alfred is still alive in 1851 - at home with his parents in  Maiden Bradley, all of them agricultural labourers.

1851 HO107/1850/80/15

Have you tried the route of finding all his siblings in later censuses, to see whether he has been wrongly enumerated under their name?  Do you know whether he survived past 1851?

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Yes he survived past 1851, he married Sarah Marsh in 1859 and whilst he never appeared on any census with Sarah he is registered as the father of her four children, the youngest being born in 1877. Haven't looked for him with his siblings, will give that ago thanks for the pointer.

Might have been helpful to mention this at the beginning!?!

I had found the marriage but can't see them in 1861 either.  There's an Alfred and Sarah MARSH but he is too old & born in the wrong place.

Where were the children born?

Will move this to the Wiltshire board, where you might get lucky with specialist help.

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
