Hi
The St Germans reference certainly would be OK

See Genuki page:
The parish of Torpoint is in the St Germans Registration District and has been since 1st July 1837; there were sub-districts at Antony, St Germans and Saltash but they have now been abolished. The parish is now part of the Caradon District Council.
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Cornwall/Torpoint/
There are no others at FreeBMD, so looks pretty good option.

Where are they in the 1891 census?

Bye
Althea

thanks for that by 1891 they were in Bermonsey London on census it states wife Maud  If I have correct marriage certificate it just says Robert Hancock and Maud Cushaw but on my grandfathers birth certificate  it states father Robert John Osbourne Hancock mother Caroline Maud Hancock formerly Cushaw   I think she was born Stoke Dameral Devon
The only other link I have is on above m/c it says father Robert Hancock deceased seaman
I have sent for John Robert Osbourne's b/c and this also says father Robert Hancock seaman looks like H M Aboukeer  could i still be barking up wrong tree ???

Hi everyone thankyou for your messages    I have found out that Mary Jane Hoyle  mother on John Robert Osboune Hancock b/c  (1862 Torpoint) was married to Robert Hancock seaman in 1855
I was contacted by someone who said she married a Harry? Scott in 1861 and the children at some point were called Scott  but have got a Robert Hancocks Navy record  and the 2 ships mentioned on M/c and b/c match up with dates so think I am on the right track  was still in Navy untill 1868   also cannot fine a M/c for mary and harry Scott

My problem is could John Robert Osbourne be the 1891 and1901 census calling himself Robert the only link I have is both my grandfather (his son) and my father have the names Robert John/James Osbourne Hancock
I think there is a good chance 1871,1881 are the right census
By the way Deb my grandfather emigrated to Canada and lived sometime in the USA before returning to England but thats another story

My grandad Robert James Osbourne Hancock was born 1883 registered in Newington Surrey England father Robert John Osbourne Hancock  and Caroline Maud Cushaw    At some point in his young life emigrated to Canada and became a Canadian coming back to England in Canadian Army ww1    married a girl from Liverpool and took her back after the war this is when i think he lived some time in USA  he rode in Buffalo Bills Circus   Something went wrong and he had his wife deported (so rumour says) but he must have come back because he was killed in the blitz 1940
Must say my father (now dead so I can say) left us when I was 5 after ww2 never to be seen again until I reached 50   thats why I am so interested

I definitely think you have the right Robert in 1891 and 1901 !! Thank Goodness he always said he was born Torpoint! ;D

Do you think your dad went overseas too?

I will look for passenger lists.
