Hi Wooley

Just dug out my MN badge from the 60's and the only similarity is the general shape and composition.  It looks like there are some letters above the anchor in the centre.   ???

Could it be Royal Fleet Auxiliary I wonder.  They had RFA above the anchor.

Is it possible to enhance the picture more?

Whoever he is and whatever rank he needs to get somebody chipping at the ice.

Best I could come up with Bob, to me it doesn't look like writing

Just had another thought, as far as I know all MN badges had the Tudor crown (square sails & transoms) and the RN etc have the Royal crown.  Yours looks like a Royal crown to me.

Thanks for that Bob,
Yes, the more you look at it the more like a crown it looks.
That's another new fact I'll have to chase up, knew I had a couple of ratings in the first world war but he looks more of an officer type to me.

Definitely an officer, ratings badges did not include the wreath or leaves generally.  Besides he's wearing a tie!!
