Hello
My great grandfather was Sir George White. His son, Captain James (Jack White), was my grandfather. He was a rebel and founded the Irish Citizen Army that became the IRÁ. He died penniless in a Belfast nursing home. Sadly his wife, Noreen Shanahan, born in Dublin, sold Whitehall. Unbelievably the property is now up for sale. I would love to get in touch with anyone who is related.

A quick reply!
I had seen various references to Jack White but had not realised the relevance until now. Thanks for your information and I will study it further. I am posting from New Zealand, so judging from the timing of your post I am guessing you are Northern Hemisphere somewhere.
Thomas White emigrated to New Zealand and unlike Jack it seems was reasonably wealthy having negotiated a favourable settlement with the White family around his claim to the estate. All very "hush, hush" i think. He emigrated with a large  family mainly daughters, so for many the White name became lost as they intermarried. But several of us are still in touch. I have also established contact with a descendant in Ireland through DNA testing, but we are at a loss to establish exactly where he fits in. It would be good if roots chat information assisted with this.

As a follow up, thanks very much for the information that Whitehall is now on the market again. The promotional photos that go with the sale notice are very interesting as is the descriptioon of rooms etc that accompany it. It is a much larger property than we had imagined from the 1 photo we had previously seen that only shows the front of the main house.
