Merthyr Tydfil looks ups please
« on: Tuesday 18 January 05 04:18 GMT (UK) »
HI I am trying to find information about my Grandfather Cyril HIgginson born in 1902 in Merthyr. I think he later got married in Merthyr registry office to Agnes Maud in about 1921? Also my maternal grandparents were married in Merthyr registry office in about 1928, Alfred Savage (born in Wells) and Elizabeth Anne Williams. Any info ON dates and parents would be great!

Thanks
Melanie in New Zealand

Dear Melanie

I think your best bet would be to purchase Cyril's full birth certificate which will then give you his parentage. You mentioned 1902 for Cyril's birth, this is backed up with the information from the Free bmd site:

Surname  First name(s)  Age  District  Vol  Page
Births Sep Qtr 1902
Higginson  Cyril Henry    Merthyr T.  11a 859

You will have to check which office hold this information:

Merthyr Tydfil Ground Floor, Castle House, Glebeland Street, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8AT.
Tel: 01685 723318

or

Pontypridd Courthouse Street, Pontypridd, CF37 1JS.
Tel: 01443 486869. Fax: 01443 406587.

or you can order online via: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0

There is also this entry in the 1901 census for the Glamorgan region which may be worth making a note of for now:

Name Age Where Born Administrative County Civil Parish Occupation

Frank Higginson  22 Glamorgan Peterston Glamorgan Aberdare Police Constable

I hope this information will help you
Kindest Regards

Jen  :)

Thanks Jen, I will do that. As for Frank, yes i had found that entry too, but can't for the life of me figure out who he is! And its not as if there are thousands of Higginson's in Aberdare and Merthyr!
