Margaret Douglas or Margaret Templeton - Blaengwrach
« on: Wednesday 21 May 08 17:19 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the birth of a Margaret Douglas or Margaret Templeton, born c1874 at Blaengwrach, Glamorgan.  In 1881, her name is Margaret Douglas and residing with her grandparents Robert and Agnes Templeton at Hendrawyddil, Blaengwrach.  In 1891 and 1901 her name is Margaret Templeton working as a servant.  I cannot find an entry in the births on Ancestry.

Thanks

Could she have been named after her grandmother? There's a birth registration
Agnes Templeton march qtr 1875 Neath vol 11a pg 664

and I can't see a suitable match for this Agnes in 1881. There is a death in Merthyr Tydfil of an Agnes aged 0 in 1877, but this looks to be another family of Templetons.

If not, have you tried the registrar in Neath in case the details didn't get to the GRO?

Thanks for the info Osprey.  I suspect her date of birth was 28/12/1874, so I assume the birth may appear in the March 1875 return.  I don't have the Agnes you mention in my tree, so I might go for that.

If you try the local office and ask them only to issue the certificate if the mother is correct, it might help. I wondered if she was named for her grandmother, but known as Margaret. Could the Agnes Templetons registered in Merthyr Tydfil be related as well? Both of them died as infants.  :'(
