St John Newcastle PRs
« on: Saturday 24 May 08 10:09 BST (UK) »
Hi folks, can anyone help? Is anyone able to check this please?

The IGI have this entry
LOUISA NEWTON
 Birth:  21 SEP 1796
Christening:  31 DEC 1797   Saint John, Newcastle Upon Tyne,
 Parents:
  Father:  JOHN NEWTON
  Mother:  CHRISTIAN

I am unable to find this on the Seachlab/family search site, 1796/7 seems to be missing....or horribly out of order!
It's not a name (Louisa)  that's carried on through the family and I'm wondering if the transcription is right  :-\

Many thanks Sylvia

Hello Sylvia, The St. John parish register indicates the dates you cite are correct, along with the name "Louisa" AND it further indicates that she is the daughter of John Newton, linen draper and his wife, Christina...... Hope this helps! Pat

I see a pretty good possibilities for Chrstain Greaves baptism.  Right age anyway.

Newcastle All Saints:

Christian Greaves baptised 26 Sept 1768 d/o William Greaves
Unfortunately many parishes back then did not include the mother's name.

Thank you too Janis  ;D
I believe William Greaves married Elizabeth Naters, this also from the igi and I have several children born to them.

It's the father John Newton that I'm having trouble with. One of his children's baptisms say he in a Linen Draper of Gateshead, but I can't find a likely candidate in the right time frame
Never mind he'll turn up somewhere  ;D
