Can you please see if you can find the family of Evan Jones who should be about 45 in the 1861 census?

Here are his details in 1851
JONES Evan, h, m, 35, Carrier, SAL , New houses, /f368/p14
JONES Elizabeth, w, m, 34, , CMN, New houses, /f368/p14
JONES Catherine, d, u, 15, Carrier's daughter, MGY Cemmes, New houses, /f368/p14
JONES Evan, s, u, 13, Scholar, MGY Cemmes, New houses, /f368/p14
JONES Ebenezer, s, u, 11, Scholar, MGY Cemmes, New houses, /f368/p14
JONES Isaac, s, u,  9, At home, MGY Cemmes, New houses, /f368/p14
JONES Edward, s, u, 7, , MGY Cemmes, New houses, /f368/p14
JONES Elizabeth, d, u, 5, , MGY Cemmes, New houses, /f368/p14

I particularly want to know where Evan and Elizabeth his wife were born, I'm hoping that 1861 will give more details than just "Shropshire" and "Carmarthenshire"

Hi Dolgellau

I have had a look for Evan and his family on the 1861 but cannot find any of them anywhere!!!  I have even searched on the more unusual names Ebenezer and Isaac but found nothing.

Do you know for definite that they were still in Montgomeryshire by 1861?

Sorry that I can't be of any further help.

Jan :)

Thanks for trying, Jan.

I can't be certain that they were in Montgomeryshire in 1861, I know they were there in 1855, but I can't find any trace of any of the family in 1871 or 1881 apart from Catherine the eldest daughter and my 2x great grandmother who had married a David Jones (I hate Jonses :( ) and was living in Dolgellau.

There is an iffy possibility for Ebenezer in a working man's barracks in 1891 in Trawsfynydd, but apart from that no trace.

I have been unable to find any burial or death records to suggest that the family was wiped out by an epidemic so I am beginning to think that they may have gone to seek a better life in America, Patagonia, Australia or somewhere.

Hope you do manage to find them somewhere Dolgellau.

I hate JONES too!!!! My maiden name was Jones so while I have been doing my father's family tree I have come across hundreds of them.  The worst cases are where a lot of JONES ladies married a JONES - what a nightmare!!!!!!  And, the repeat of such common christian names makes it even more difficult.  I have several Elizabeth Jones, Thomas Jones, Richard Jones (my father included!), James Jones etc etc ::) ::)

Good luck

Jan
