A free search on Findmypast for parchment makers named Taylor brings up two Johns in Henley (not too far from Reading) aged 57 and 18.
in 1861 that is..

I can't find them on Ancestry - but they must be there!

RG9; Piece: 883; Folio: 7; Page: 8

some confusion over  location between the two indexes..
It's Caversham (Henley reg district) , and an age is different. (51y at Ancestry, 57y at FindMyPast)

Hi Pauline,

Yes, Annette found them (on p 2 of this thread).  Findmypast free searches give the registration distict - which is Henley in this case, but not the civil parish, which is Caversham.  Ancestry have transcribed John senior's age as 51, but the census page clearly has it as 57.

Hi Everyone,

I wasn't expecting any come back on my post yesterday.
So thank you again.
I'm a little confused as 1841 census has Samuel down as John & also 1861 find my past parchment makers.
You also said that Miriam is a Hebrew name which I had thought,I keep hearing people say if your
mother's Jewish then you are too.
The reason we believed Samuel to have Jewish parentage is because of;
On  Samuel's death they buried him in the Jewish part of one of the cemetery's in Havant.  However, when his wife died she was buried on the other side of the cemetery, as our family wasn't allowed to have her buried with her husband as she had requested. :'(

Thank's again. :)
Sheila

i geuss it depends on which person'gave up' their faith to enable marriage t'other

Autumn Kelly has 'given up' her catholic faith to marry Peter Phillips so he can still stand in line to the throne, as Catholics are not allowed to inherit the throne as this is a Christian Country i.e Chruch of England
all to do with Elizabteth Regina I and MAry Queen of Scots

Because marriage under Jewish law is essentially a private contractual agreement between a man and a woman, it does not require the presence of a rabbi or any other religious official. It is common, however, for rabbis to officiate, partly in imitation of the Christian practice and partly because the presence of a religious or civil official is required under American civil law.
